Teacher Preparation Team 2
Faculty and Staff: Teacher Preparation Team Two Organization

The team structure in place in the TE Department enables faculty and graduate students to work together closely to plan and teach the MSU teacher preparation course sequence across the junior, senior and internship years, and to work collaboratively with the collaborating teachers in schools who support the teacher candidates’ school-based learning.  Team Two offers courses and field-based experiences to approximately 100 juniors, 100 seniors, and 90 interns.

Team Two Coordination Personnel

A Team Two Leader represents the team in the Teacher Education Departments’ development of program and policy, which includes approaches to working with schools.  The Team Leader coordinates communication and curriculum development among faculty, graduate students, and collaborating teachers who teach Team Two courses, and is available to talk with any participant in the internship about program development, courses, personnel, policy, or other ideas they wish to discuss.

A Team Coordinator assists the Team Leader in program staffing, communication with the Teacher Education Department and schools, and professional development for Field Instructors who support interns’ school-based learning, and curriculum development.  The Team Coordinator serves as the instructor of record for TE 501 and TE 502 during the internship.  She is available to talk with any participant in the internship about program development, courses, personnel, policy, or other ideas they wish to discuss.

Three Cluster Leaders work on a regular basis with a set of schools to foster communication among collaborating teachers and course instructors and to make field placements for juniors, seniors and interns.  Cluster Leaders also foster communication among course instructors, field instructors, and collaborating teachers during the internship year and assist in developing innovative mentoring practices. Cluster leaders are available to talk with any participant in the internship about questions and issue of concern.

What is a Cluster?

  • Schools are arranged by four Clusters (A, B, C, D). Each cluster of 4-6 schools is associated with particular sections of TE 301, 401, 801 and 802 in the Fall, and particular sections of TE 402, 803 and 804 in the Spring.  This allows course instructors to communicate with a smaller number of schools to maintain closer communication regarding MSU course work and the teacher candidates' and interns’ classroom-based and school-based experiences.

  • Each cluster of schools has a Cluster Leader who facilitates communication between MSU (Field Instructors, Course Instructors and Team Two Coordination personnel) and each  school’s CTs, TELs and Principals.  The Cluster Leader assures that all interns have suitable field placements and assures that all interns are well supported, supervised, and evaluated.

  • Each cluster of schools has a set Course Instructors who teach the section of TE 301, 401, 402, 801, 802, 803 and 804 that is associated with that cluster.

  • Each school has a set of Juniors, or Seniors, and/or Interns and Collaborating Teachers (CTs) who work together in support of the teacher candidates' and interns’ professional learning and induction into the teaching profession.

  • Each school has a Teacher Education Liaison (TEL) who facilitates communication between MSU (Field Instructors, Course Instructors, and Team Two Coordination Personnel) and the school’s CTs and Principal.

  • Each school with interns assigned has a Field Instructor who works with the interns and their CTs in that school, maintains communication with MSU (course instructors and Team Two Coordination Personnel), and conducts the TE 501 and 502 seminars and meetings with CTs in the school.
