Lane, John
John Lane is a third-year student in both the Educational Policy and the Curriculum, Instruction, and Teacher Education programs. Before coming to Michigan State, John worked as a teacher, site administrator, curriculum specialist, and consultant in California. He came to Michigan State to learn about school policy, leadership, and management in hopes that he could start a charter school network in collaboration with colleagues in his home state. However, his learning experiences in the educational policy program have led him in a new direction. He is currently interested in the further analysis of enduring educational challenges, mostly notably the persistent challenge of achieving universal levels of high academic achievement for all students. As his primary funding source, John is supported by a university fellowship. Additionally, the program provides John, like other policy students, with generous travel and conference funding, statistical and qualitative analysis software, summer research fellowships allowing him time to focus solely on developing research skills and experiences, and money for research expenses.
