Internship Placement Process
Resume for a Prospective Mentor Teacher

As part of the internship placement process, district administrators, principals and prospective mentor teachers want to look at your resume and learn something about you as a teacher.  This gives you an opportunity to tell them something about yourself and gives them a chance to decide if they would like to place you as a teacher intern.

You are expected to prepare a resume to facilitate this part of the placement process.  Guidelines for a resume are attached.  If you already have a resume, you can revise it if necessary so that it emphasizes your education related experiences.

Please follow these guidelines:

  • Do the resume on a word processor

  • Save it for future use in editing and making corrections.

  • You must use the enclosed format.

  • Limit your resume to one or two pages (can be printed 1-sided or 2-sided).

  • A size 12 font is recommended.

  • Choose one format for dates (May, 2004 or May 2004) and use it throughout your resume.

  • Be consistent with your formatting and spacing.

  • Spelling and grammar must be correct.  Do not just use a spell check on your work.  Proofread the resume yourself.  Then have someone else read it.  Principals and mentor teachers often reject you as a prospective intern if your materials contain spelling or grammatical errors.

The  resume is due by Monday, November 22, 2004.  Put it in the box labeled Resumes in 347 Erickson Hall.  Turn in one clean copy to be read.  The resume will be returned to you in January so you can add your TE402 field placement and make any revisions or corrections.  You will have one week from the time you are notified to make revisions.  Failure to do so in a timely fashion will delay your placement.  It is important that you check email every day since all notifications will be sent via your MSU email account.

Once a possible placement is identified, you will be notified as to the next step.  Many mentor teachers also want you to spend some time in their classroom before school dismisses for the summer.  This will help you and your mentor teacher get started on making plans for your internship year.  We hope to have placements confirmed by the end of April.  Do not contact any school prior to notification of your placement.

If you have any questions about any part of this process, be sure to contact Kathy Moon at kmoon@msu.edu or Nancy Rudd at nrudd16@msu.edu
