Joni Starr, a member of the Michigan State University staff, was kind enough to share her experiences and passion in the field of education through the arts. She described ways that teachers, even those who are not confident in art, can integrate the arts into classroom subjects. She shared many of her own experiences, such as teaching the planets through drama in Shanghai, China. If you are interested in ways of bringing out your artistic side through dancing or theater, or just want to learn more about the arts, Joni teaches THR 421, THR 422, DAN 420, and IAH 241E.

The next general meeting will be on November 22nd at 6:00 pm. Remember to sign in so that you can earn your 8 points! Look out for service events! On November 14th, 8 to 10 volunteers are needed at the College of Education Technology Fair from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Lauren DuLac.

The first general KDP meeting was a success! The meeting began with an introduction of the E-board, if you were unable to make it or want a refresher on who's who, please see the "Eboad & Leadership" tab above. The general rules and outlines regarding membership and participation were discussed and have been updated on the home page. Active members are those who have paid KDP national membership fees and participating members are those who have completed 8 points. These points may be earned through any KDP event, excluding one point which must be earned at a general meeting and one that must be earned at a service event. Make sure to look for the sign-in sheet at every event! Ashley then passed out a survey so that the E-board knows exactly what type of experiences you are looking for from our KDP chapter. Hopefully all of our meetings will be interesting and will incorporate speakers that will touch on topics that you are curious or uncertain about!!

The speaker of the meeting was Corvell Cranfield who discussed the Cross-Cultural Teaching Program in South Africa. This is just one of three programs that is offered for pre-internship college of education students; there is also the choice of studying in Australia and Malaysia. The program includes a home stay with a mentor teacher and his or her family, lectures and discussions, field trips, and participation in community projects. For more information, there is a meeting on October 8th.

Remember that the book fair is taking place September 21st through the 25th! Make sure to stop by! If you are working, please arrive on time and remember to sign in!! On October 16th, we will be participating in the homecoming parade!! We should have shirts ready by that time so that we can be ready to go!
