Emerging Progress Award: 2006 MSU Annual Awards
Children's Literature Team in the Department of Teacher Education, College of Education. The Children's Literature Team, six doctoral students and Laura Apol, professor of teacher education, has developed new courses introducing diversity, equity and social justice in the college's curriculum. Members have held professional development workshops to help faculty and current classroom teachers learn ways to incorporate and responsibly use multicultural literature in the classroom to meet the needs of diverse learners. The team has won Emerging Progress Award.

Mary Kennedy received AACTE's 2005 Margaret B. Lindsey Award for Distinguished Research in Teacher Education. This is an important professional achievement award to recognize the major impact that Mary Kennedy's research has had on the field of Teacher Education over the past 10 years.

Chris Wheeler of the Department of Teacher Education
was awarded the RALPH H. SMUCKLER AWARD FOR ADVANCING
INTERNATIONAL STUDIES AND PROGRAMS AT M.S.U. The
Ralph H. Smuckler Award recognizes distinguished achievement
in the promotion of international activities (research,
teaching, and outreach) by faculty, administration, and
staff members at Michigan State University.
His
award citation noted that: "Across Southeast Asia, MSU's
reputation owes a great deal to the work of Dr. Christopher
Wheeler, professor in the Department of Teacher Educaton.
Since 1987, he has applied his knowledge of education, his
ability to analyze complex situations, and his ability to
work across disciplines in developing innovative solutions
to real world problems in Thailand and Vietnam."
