DIVERSE LEARNERS I (6 credits)
Directed and evaluated
internship in heterogeneous classrooms. Teaching worthwhile
content to students with varied learning needs. Theoretical and
field-based explorations of common teaching dilemmas.
TE 801 - PROFESSIONAL ROLE AND
TEACHING PRACTICE I (3 credits)
Teachers' professional and
ethical responsibilities. Connections of schools to other social
agencies. Relation of teachers to colleagues, families, other
social service providers, and community leaders. Roles in school
governance.
TE 802 - REFLECTION AND INQUIRY
IN TEACHING PRACTICE I (3 credits)
Qualitative and quantitative
research methods on teaching and learning. Criteria for judging
the validity and applicability of research-based knowledge.
Framing educational problems worthy of inquiry. Designing and
assessing studies of teaching practice.
Spring Semester
TE 502 -
INTERNSHIP IN TEACHING DIVERSE LEARNERS II (6 credits)
Continuing internship in
heterogeneous classrooms at selected schools. Increased emphasis
on independent teaching. Maintaining classroom communities that
ensure equitable access to important knowledge and skills.
Assessing academic and social outcomes.
TE 803 - PROFESSIONAL ROLE AND
TEACHING PRACTICE II (3 credits)
School-agency alliances for
fostering student learning. Strategies for working with families
and community groups to improve responsiveness to the school
curriculum and to students’ needs. Child advocacy in the
school and community.
TE 804 - REFLECTION AND INQUIRY
IN TEACHING PRACTICE II (3 credits)
Collecting, analyzing, and
interpreting data on teaching, learning, and educational policy.
Dilemmas surrounding research on practice. Appraising and
reporting results of inquiry.
Special

REFLECTION AND INQUIRY IN TEACHING SPECIAL EDUCATION I: MILD
IMPAIRMENT (3 credits)
Qualitative and quantitative research methods on
teaching and learning of students with emotional or learning
impairments. Framing educational problems in special
education. Designing and assessing studies of mathematics and
problem solving.
CEP 803A –
PROFESSIONAL ROLE IN TEACHING SPECIAL EDUCATION II: ASSESSMENT
OF MILD IMPAIRMENT (3 credits)
School-agency
alliances for fostering student learning. Informal and formal
assessment methods for planning and evaluating instruction and
for classifying and placing students who are mildly impaired.
Engage with families to improve responsiveness to the
assessment.

CEP 502A –
INTERNSHIP IN TEACHING DIVERSE LEARNERS II: LEARNING
DISABILITIES (6 credits)
Internship to heterogeneous classrooms.
Increased emphasis on independent teaching. Teaching students
with learning disabilities in classroom communities that ensure
equitable access to important knowledge and skills . Assessing
academic and social outcomes.

PROFESSIONAL ROLE IN TEACHING SPECIAL EDUCATION I:
COLLABORATION AND CONSULTATION (3 credits)
Professional and ethical responsibilities.
Models and methods of collaboration with teachers, parents, and
community agencies to foster learning for students with
impairments in school and community settings.
CEP 804A –
REFLECTION AND INQUIRY IN TEACHING SPECIAL EDUCATION II: MILD
IMPAIRMENT (3 credits)
Collecting, analyzing and interpreting data
related to the teaching and learning of literacy for students
with learning or emotional impairments. Appraising and
reporting results of inquiry. Developing and studying learning
communities which facilitate learning for mildly impaired
students.

Assessing academic, communication, and social outcomes.
CEP 803C –
PROFESSIONAL ROLE IN TEACHING SPECIAL EDUCATION II: ASSESSMENT
OF DEAF STUDENTS (3 credits)
School-agency
alliances for fostering student learning. Informal and formal
assessment methods for diagnosing communication functions.
Engage with families to improve responsiveness to the assessment
of communication skills.
CEP 804C – REFLECTION AND INQUIRY IN TEACHING
SPECIAL EDUCATION II: DEAF EDUCATION (3 credits)
Collecting, analyzing and interpreting data
related to teaching, learning and educational policy.
Appraising and reporting results of inquiry. Designing and
assessing studies of teaching practice in academic subject
learning related to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
