Social Studies Integrated Teaching Major for Elementary Teacher Certification:


 

Option 1---Social Studies Major (History Emphasis)  -- 38 Credits

(Note: Regardless of emphasis chosen, your teaching major is Social Studies, and the MTTC subject area test you should take for certification is Social Studies. )

 

Both of the following economics courses  (6 credits)

EC 201 Introduction to Microeconomics  
EC 202 Introduction to Macroeconomics  

 

Both of the following political science courses  (6 credits)

PLS 100  Introduction to American National Government 3
PLS 324 American Legislative Process 3

 

The following geography course

GEO 204 World Regional Geography 3

NOTE: Credits count towards Planned Program.  0 Credits counted here for Education majors.  The credits do count here for Special Education majors.

 

Two of the following:  (6 credits)

GEO 206 Physical Geography 3
GEO 330 Geography of US and Canada 3
GEO 333 Geography of Michigan 3

 

The following courses in History:  (8 credits)

HST 202 US History to 1876 4
HST 203 US History since 1876 4 

(Both courses count only towards Social Studies major)

 

All of the following:  (9 credits)

HST 201 Historical Methods and Skills 3
HST 320 History of Michigan 3
HST 413  Families in Historical Perspective 3

One History course at the 300/400 level  (3 credits)

 

 

Option 2----Social Studies (Geography Emphasis)  -- 37

 

Both of the following economics courses  (6 credits)

EC 201 Introduction to Macroeconomics 3
EC 202 Introduction to Macroeconomics 3

 

Both of the following political science courses (6 credits)

PLS 100 Introduction to American National Government 3

Both of the following history courses  (4 credits)

HST 202  US History to 1876 4
HST 203 US History since 1876 4

(One of these courses will count towards the Planned Program.  The other will count HERE)

 

One of the following:  (3 credits)

HST  413 Families in Historical Perspective 3

 

The following course in Geography:  (3 credits)

GEO 204 World Regional Geography 3  

(This course is also required in the Planned Program for Elementary Education.  The credits are counted here for Education, Special Education and Child Development)

GEO 151 Cultural Geography 3
