We
welcome your interest in the MSU School Psychology program and invite
you to explore our website to learn more about our Program's
goals, curriculum for the Ph.D or Ed.S programs, and faculty and to take a tour of the MSU campus. In addition, you can learn more about us at our annual 'Fall Fest.'
Our
School Psychology community is made up of a talented and dynamic
group of students who come from a variety of states across the nation
including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana,
Iowa, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, South
Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Michigan, as well other countries
such as Greece. Through a careful review process, we select students
whom we believe to be well-suited to the Program's philosophy and
goals and who possess outstanding academic and interpersonal skills.
that enable them to benefit from and contribute to the Program.
Our
Program philosophy is reflected in our practice of fostering a community
of learners that is characterized by mutual respect and valuing
of the different roles and perspectives of the members. Students
are centrally involved in Program governance activities and serve
on a variety of committees and working groups including Student
Advisory, Admissions, Orientation, and Faculty Search Committees.
They are active in student affiliate organizations of national professional organizations within the field [the American Psychological Association Division 16 (School Psychology ), and the National Organization of School Psychologists ) and the state association, the Michigan Association of School Psychologists .
We conceive of learning as bi-directional, a collaborative effort
involving contributions by both faculty and students. In working
together, students and faculty create a synergy that energizes the
program, provides direction, and generates ideas.
The
MSU School Psychology Program is deeply committed to promoting students'
multicultural competence, to enhancing diversity within the profession,
and to educating scholars and practitioners from traditionally underrepresented
groups. This is consistent with the University's philosophy
that states "Diversity in the faculty, students and staff is
a major source of MSU's intellectual vitality and innovative spirit.
MSU strives to be a community where people of different cultures,
intellectual positions and lifestyles can reach their full potential.
Such an environment develops respect for differences while fostering
caring relationships, cross-cultural understanding, and common educational
commitments" (see http://www.msu.edu/access/
).
