Language & Literacy Ph.D. students are assigned two co-chairs for their Guidance Committee – one faculty member from their home department and one literacy faculty member.  In the case that the literacy faculty member is also a member of the student’s home department, only one Guidance Committee chair is required.

When Language & Literacy Ph.D. students are ready to form their Dissertation Committees, they will choose as the Chair the literacy faculty member whose own research and professional affiliations best match the interests of the student, regardless of department affiliation.
