The Office of
K-12 Outreach develops, plans, coordinates and hosts a variety of
events that respond to both emerging and enduring educational
issues. Some of these issues become the topic of regularly
scheduled events; others are addressed through individually
tailored events that meet the needs of specific constituencies.

About
the forums
The
President’s Education Forums, which have been held for the past 11
years, are an outreach strategy to inform policy makers and
education leaders about current education policy issues and open
discussion around research and best practice in specific education
policy areas. These yearly forums are sponsored by MSU President Lou
Anna Simon and by the College of Education through the Office of
K-12 Outreach. This event,
by invitation only,
is well attended by state legislators and their staff members, State
Board of Education members, Michigan Department of Education staff,
leaders of local and intermediate school districts and association
representatives.

Emerging
Leaders Program
The Emerging Leaders program, completing its
tenth year in June 2008, is a collaborative program with the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) and the Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA). This three-day summer institute staffed by College of Education faculty, successful practicing principals, and the president and executive director of MASSP and MEMSPA provides potential school administrators an opportunity to develop leadership skills and an awareness of the knowledge and skills necessary to be a successful school principal.
The 2009 Emerging Leaders Program will be held June 16-18.

Summer
Institute for Superintendents
The 2009
Superintendents’ Institute is scheduled for June 23-25 at Crystal
Mountain Conference Center in Thompsonville, Michigan. Look for
details coming in March.
About
the institute
The yearly
institute, which began in 1999, is co-sponsored by the MSU College
of Education and the University of Michigan’s School of Education.
It provides superintendents with the highest quality professional
development to meet today’s educational challenges by providing
opportunities for superintendents to experience diverse perspectives
on issues and develop leadership and problem solving strategies.
Small group discussions and interactive sessions allow participants
to interact with presenters, reflect and share ideas on best
practice and educational issues.

Linking and Learning with Schools around the World

This year's conference will focus
on global networking and how K-12 schools can learn how other
countries are addressing school improvement by developing
partnerships through iNet (International Network for International
Transformation), a network of more than 4000 schools in 36
countries. Afternoon breakout sessions will include practical ways
for schools to internationalize their curriculum.
