Deadline for MAET Summer 2008 admission is February 15, 2008. ALL application materials must be received by this date. Applicants should expect the entire process to take up to two months.
Applications are reviewed by MAET faculty as they are received. Review of applications for admission to Michigan State University occurs at two levels. One is at the university level through the Graduate School Admissions Office. The other is at the department level through the Department of CEPSE faculty. Once the Application for Graduate Study and transcripts have been received by the Department of CEPSE, it is forwarded to the Graduate School Admissions Office for review. In turn, the MAET faculty reviews these documents and other materials sent to the department and either accepts or denies the application based on criteria as published in the University Catalogue and including the following criteria:
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Consideration is given to the academic record, i.e. quality of undergraduate courses taken and grades earned in major areas of study. The faculty reviews the statement of goals, the required professional essay, teaching and professional experiences as represented in the personal vita, and three reference forms or letters of recommendation. The faculty look for a match between the applicants' goals and resources and what the MAET can offer.
The following forms and application materials are in PDF (Portable Document Format) and RTF (Rich Text Format). PDF files can be viewed and printed using the free Adobe PDF viewer available here (this is the recommended download for forms). RTF files can be downloaded and viewed in most word processing programs (in addition, they can be sent as an email attachment).

One (1) copy of Official transcripts from all degree granting
institutions - Master’s applicants must have a four-year US
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational qualifications from
another country. To make an admission decision, the faculty and
Graduate School Admissions Office will review transcripts from
degree granting institutions, that is, from the institution you
earned your BA, BS degree and, if applicable, MA degree. These
copies must be "official" in the sense that they are sent
directly by your institutions to MSU with a university seal or
other notarization mark. Please make sure that you notify your
degree granting institutions to send your official copies to Sue
Barratt in the MAET Admissions Office. If you earned any of your
degrees from MSU, we can access your records and retrieve your
transcripts. If your transcript does not state the degree
earned, you must submit an official certified copy of your
degree certificate.
Colleges and universities require fees and time to process requests for transcripts. You can expedite the process by including in your request: your full name, student identification number, social security number (if applicable), date of birth, dates of attendance, and your signature to authorize the transcript release.
International applicants should request official copies of their diplomas and marking sheets. Marking sheets should have a university seal or notarizing mark. If the documents are in a language other than English, they should be translated and notarized as true copies of the original. If you have taken 0 and A levels or an additional year of university courses to obtain a teaching credential, please forward these documents along with a chronology of your educational background, noting the years in school at each level, primary, secondary, and university. Provide a list of workshops and institutes in which you have participated on your vita or resume.
- GRE - The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is not required for application to the MAET.
- TOEFL - Applicants who attend the
MAET program in Plymouth are not required to present a TOEFL score if they are full time teachers/administrators in international schools where English is their language of instruction. GSEO applicants whose first language is not English and do not teach in the English language must demonstrate English language proficiency as indicated: For Regular Admission – Paper-based test: 550 with no sub-score below 52; Computer-based test: 213 with no sub-score below 19
