I received my bachelors degree in Psychology
from Wittenberg University. I officially began
my career in Rehabilitation Counseling at The
University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign. There,
I was able to gain invaluable practical experience
and knowledge on how to partner with individuals
with disability in creating more independent lives
for themselves. Realizing that there was more
that I wanted to learn and cultivating the strong
interest in research I developed at U of I, I
decided to enter the doctoral program in Rehabilitation
Counselor Education at Michigan State University.
My time at Michigan State was well spent. Again,
I was given the opportunity and more importantly,
supported in the continuation of gaining practical
experience in the field. The instruction, support,
encouragement and guidance that I received from
the faculty at MSU has been of great service to
me professionally and personally. My current position
as Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator
of the Rehabilitation Counseling Program at The
University of Memphis calls on the various skills
I gained at MSU, daily.
The field is constantly growing and stretching
itself in new directions. Each new step the profession
takes, provides another door of opportunities
for the people we serve, as well as for each rehabilitation
counseling professional. I take great pride in
having come from such a well respected and reputable,
educational program. Michigan State's program
is among the best and for good reason. The dedication
of the faculty and staff at the MSU program to
their students and the rehabilitation counseling
profession, serve as a guide to me in my own professional
development. I would highly recommend the program
at Michigan State to any individual who has a
genuine interest in learning how to partner with
persons with disabilities, in various ways to
create more independent lives; who is determined
and has the capabilities to work at high standards;
and one who has the desire to gain an in-depth
knowledge of the field from well respected professors
with a wealth of knowledge, experience and service
to the field of rehabilitation counseling.
