Important Note: Pending approval by the Michigan State University Academic Council, and beginning in the Fall 2008 semester, the curriculum for the Master of Arts (MA) degree program in Rehabilitation Counseling will be as follows:

The program is available only under Plan B (without thesis).  The student must complete a total of 54 credits distributed as follows:

MSU Rehabilitation Counseling Programs Celebrates 50 th Anniversary
This year marks the 50 th anniversary of the Rehabilitation Counseling Programs at Michigan State University. To celebrate this significant milestone, we plan to have a number of special events throughout the coming academic year (2006-07) to honor our programs history and legacy, and the outstanding contributions made by it's masters and doctoral program graduates, and faculty. The first of these celebrations is planned to take place this fall at the Michigan Rehabilitation Conference, in Traverse City on Wednesday, November 15, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. If you are a program graduate or a friend of the program and want to participate in these celebrations please contact Joyce Schultz, our Program Secretary, so that you are included in further announcements. Dr. Donnell receives the Bobbie Atkins Research Award for 2005
Dr. Chandra Donnell was honored with the Bobbie Atkins Research Award. This award is named after Dr. Bobbie Atkins, a professor at San Diego State University who has been a leading educator, publisher, researcher and trainer, grant developer, and spokesperson on multicultural, gender and other issues in rehabilitation.  Recipients of this award have distinguished themselves by the production of a significant volume of exemplary research and associated publications; the inclusion of research related to multiculturalism and disability; and the development of research, which has or will make a difference in thinking and/or practice in the multicultural arena.

Dr. Leahy travels to Ireland to organize study abroad opportunity
Dr. Michael Leahy, in conjunction with the Disability Resources & Services and Study Abroad programs at Michigan State University, traveled to Ireland this summer to develop a training experience in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Leahy will coordinate the development and delivery of a course in Ireland based on CEP 470- Disability in a Diverse Society. A number of scholarships are available for students with disabilities who are interested in this study abroad opportunity. Students, both undergraduate and graduate, are encouraged to participate in this international program. The first offering of CEP 470 in Ireland will occur in Summer of 2007. Students interested in taking part in this study abroad opportunity in Ireland please contact Joyce Schultz at jschultz@msu.edu .

It will take place in Dublin, Ireland at the Dublin City University campus from June 9 to July 7, 2007. This program is open to students with or without disabilities. We are also pleased to offer $3000 scholarships to students with disabilities participating in this program.  The source of these scholarships is a grant generously funded by the IFSA Foundation. To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must:  1.) be a student with a documented disability, 2.) have applied to the Disability in a Diverse Society study abroad program, 3.) meet the eligibility criteria of a 2.0 cumulative GPA for the above program, and 4.) have submitted a complete scholarship application by February 15, 2007.  Priority will be given to students with demonstrated financial need.

Dr. Tansey travels to Russia with the Multidisciplinary Study Abroad Program
Dr. Timothy Tansey was traveled with the Multidisciplinary Program in Russia. The program consists of students and faculty from Engineering, Education, and Russian Language disciplines. While in Russia, he provided a series of seminars to Russian educators on pedagogy, development, and delivery of distance education. M.A. Graduates for the 2005-2006 academic year
ORDS faculty, students, students’ families, community partners came together to recognize the achievements of those students who graduated during the 2005-2006 academic year.

We wish our graduates the best as they continue their professional development as service providers for persons with disabilities.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Kosciulek Promoted to Full Professor 
Dr. John Kosciulek was promoted to full professor this past summer. We congratulate Dr. Kosciulek for this recognition of his outstanding contributions to the profession of rehabilitation counseling, the College of Education, and Michigan State University.

Dr. Tansey elected to the Michigan Rehabilitation Association Board
Dr. Tansey was elected to the Michigan Rehabilitation Association Board. The results of the election were announced at the Michigan Rehabilitation Conference- Michigan Rehabilitation Association board meeting on Thursday, November 16, 2006. Dr. Tansey’s term on the board begins in January and he will serve three years.
