When I read in the U.S. News and World Report that MSU's Secondary Education Masters Programs was rated #1 in the country, I was not a bit surprised. It only confirmed my opinion of the excellent education (both in the areas of theory and practice) which I received!

I am halfway through the Literacy Masters Program and have found it to be very rewarding, both educationally and personally. The courses have been relevant and useful to my practice as a middle school language arts teacher. I highly recommend this program to any individual who seeks to heighten his or her literacy scope and craft.

This masters program will empower teachers to integrate teaching across the curriculum and support for meeting the needs of students in literacy and in-state standards performance.

Students will have an opportunity to get a good, in depth, focused look at their own teaching as they partake in a teaching research project in the area of literacy instruction. This is a chance that we as educators rarely have the time to do, whereby we research teacher practices rather than student outcomes.

Wonderful program. I'm learning so many valuable practical teaching methods for cross-curriculum literacy instruction. Literacy is not found solely in Reading or English class, it's part of all subjects throughout the day, if you let it be.

This program helped me to thoroughly examine my own literacy development which therefore has provided me with much more insight and awareness as I plan literacy events in my classroom as well as for myself. It is crucial that the practitioner continues to examine his or her own literacy development. This program has provided me with an opportunity to develop more fully my sense of self in the midst of important and relevant literacy events that have pushed my thinking. I would highly recommend this program for the elementary classroom teacher. I am left with much more confidence in planning and sustaining meaningful literacy events, and I feel more knowledgeable about the development of literacy in individuals.

The item that benefited me the most was a child case study I was required to do on a student in my first grade class. It really made me focus on my reading instruction and how children became emergent readers! Another course which has helped me with my new jog as a fifth grade teacher is the course Dr. Susan Florio-Ruane had on Book Clubs. I use this practice with my 5th grade students and they love it.
