Anne Schneller, International Studies in Education, College of Education
Anne Schneller, drawing on years of experience living and working in other countries, has made extraordinary contributions to work for which Michigan State University recently received the prestigious Goldman Sachs Prize for Excellence in International Education. With characteristic vigor, creativity, and efficiency, Ms. Schneller has pursued external funding, developed study abroad programs, strengthened links with scholars and universities abroad, and helped forge a strong internationally oriented community within the College of Education.
Ms Schneller has coordinated successful programs in Southern Africa almost every year since 1991. In 2002 she developed and led an unprecedented initiative to give future teachers at MSU a rare teaching experience in the culturally unfamiliar settings of South African schools. She has also been a leader in the search for international funding to fit the strengths of the college. She not only recruits the most promising international students to MSU, she also makes herself readily available to assist them while they are on campus. One such student has named his daughter after her.
For modeling what it takes to advance knowledge and transform lives in international settings, Michigan State University proudly awards Anne Schneller the Distinguished Academic Specialist. |
