Evans,
Monica
As
an undergraduate Monica Evans studied Social Relations and African
Studies in Michigan State University’s James Madison College.
She then went on to complete her teacher education training
in the number one ranked elementary education program at MSU.
She worked for a number of years in the Detroit Public School
system, first as an elementary school teacher, and later as
a middle school library media specialist and social studies
teacher. Monica is now combining her interests in social policy,
urban education, and African studies in her doctorate work in
Education Policy. Her research focuses on the equal educational
opportunity policies and practices of democratic nations. She
is particularly interested in the educational experiences of
people of the African Diaspora. In her spare time she enjoys
visiting museums with her son, writing song lyrics, singing
and dancing, and reading supernatural fiction.
