Bucknell, Amy
As an undergraduate student at Michigan State University, Amy Bucknell studied at the James Madison College and graduated in 2007 with a BA in Social Relations and Policy, with a Muslim Studies Specialization. During her undergraduate education she spent time studying in Egypt at the American University in Cairo. While in Cairo Amy was incredibly fortunate to get the opportunity to teach English classes for Egyptian adults. It was this experience that solidified her interest in education in the Middle East.
After taking a year off from school Amy has now returned to Michigan State University as a first year student in the Educational Policy PhD program. Her research interests include gender based educational access and equality in predominantly Muslim countries, as well as curriculum and school funding. As a Dean's Scholar she has been given the opportunity to work as a graduate assistant, gaining valuable research experience. She is so excited to be back at Michigan State, working with some of the premier educators and researchers in the field while gaining an incredible education.
