Adam Maier
Adam Maier's research interests focus on educational equity. In particular, he is interested in the role teacher-preparation programs play in distributing teachers across and within schools. He is interested in how teacher-preparation programs affect where teachers apply for and accept school-positions, and how these programs affect teacher-candidates’ views on education. Adam hopes to approach these questions from sociological and economic perspectives.
Adam’s interest in policy research began in earnest while taking part in a study-abroad research program, where he compared the school finance systems of the Netherlands to educational policies in the United States. He has subsequently had the fortunate opportunity to work with Dr. Bill Schmidt on opportunity-to-learn issues.
Prior to joining the Education Policy Program, Adam taught high school math and physics in Birmingham, Michigan. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics from Michigan State University with a minor in physics, and concurrently earned his teaching certificate through MSU’s acclaimed Secondary Education Program.
An Erickson Research Fellowship supports Adam’s doctoral work.
