Survival, Part I:
Teaching Resources

Here are a few contacts you might find useful. However, bear in mind that your friendly DA is not a human being, and often is out of touch with the latest Department intrigues. If you find that my survival tips are incomplete or out of date, please send a note to my human caretaker with suggestions for changes or for additional items. Here is what I think is going on.

Access to Needed Stuff

Room Keys
See Eric Mulvaney, room 510 EH, or e-mail him to find out if you are authorized to get the keys you want.
Classroom Keys
Jackie Hohenstein , 313 EH

Copy Codes
Copy codes are all attached to specific accounts, so you need to first have an account. For instance, if you are teaching, you may obtain a code number for copying things for your course. If you are a research assistant, you may be able to obtain a different code that charges copies to the research account. See Lisa Coye, 301b EH, for more information, or e-mail her and ask about the rules.

Directories and lists
You can find a directory for all personnel in the entire college at http://ed-web2.educ.msu.edu/coedirectory/printme.asp

There is also a department-specific one-page directory, printed anew each year, which lists all faculty and their e-mail addresses. At the end of this list is a list of lists, that is, addresses to use when you want to send something to various groups. You can get this directory from Marcia Ratliffe, Administrative Assistantto the department Chair, 313 EH.

There is a also group e-mail list for all grad students, called EGSO, but many students have stopped using it because it is filled with viruses and its membership is not restricted to COE grad students. In its stead, the department has now created a private list of doctoral students within TE, but access to it is limited. If you want to send something to this list, you must first send it to Vicki Adams, the Doctoral Program Secretary, and ask her to forward it to that list.

You will likely receive lists of students in your cohort while you are taking the pro-sem courses, since students in your cohort will all be participating in the pro-sem together. Save these mailing lists for future reference.

Solving e-mail Problems
If you are having trouble hooking up and getting e-mail, try contacting Kate Baird. She is generally very helpful solving technical problems
Reserving a meeting room
If you need a conference room for a meeting, you can reserve on on line at http://ed-web2.educ.msu.edu/coeresources/default.htm.

Study Carrols
The study carrols in Erickson Hall are distributed first to students who are employed by the college. To find out about availability, contact Sara McVoy, 321 EH.

Teaching Tools

Reserving a TV and VCR or DVD player
These goods can be borrowed from the Instructional Media Center (IMC), which will also deliver them to the classroom you designate at the time you designate. They will also pick up the equipment after class. Call them at 353-3960. This equipment is free of charge as long as you (a) are using it for a class and (b) reserve it 24 hours in advance. If you want to use it for a meeting, you will need a faculty account to pay for it.
Reserving an overhead projector
Also at the Instructional Media Center, 3-3960

Reserving a hookup to display your computer screen
Contact Kate Baird, 204 EH, 2-3719

Reserving equipment from the Department
The department maintains video cameras, laptop computers, and other equipment. These are intended to be teaching aids, and cannot be checked out for personal use. You can check things out for two weeks. To get equipment, you will need prior approval, with signature from the faculty member for whom you are working. Get the approval form from Karen Gray, 355 EH, 353-0696
