Dear
Prospective Applicant:
Welcome
to the web page for the doctoral program in Curriculum,
Teaching, and Educational Policy, which is offered
by the Department
of Teacher Education at Michigan
State University.
I
think you will find that the program offers an unusual
combination of attractive features: close contact
with a faculty that is both highly accomplished and
educationally involved; a rich array of seminars providing
a theoretically-grounded exploration of key issues
in educational practice; a wide variety of teaching,
research, and professional development experiences;
and a distinctive approach to educational issues that
combines rigorous intellectual inquiry with a close
connection to professional practice.
This
section of the web page provides a wide range of information
for prospective students---about the program, its
faculty, the college, and the university. All of the
forms that are needed to apply to the university and
to the program can be obtained here
in PDF format where they can be downloaded and printed.
You can even fill
out your university application online via Internet.
We will be glad to mail you hard copies of any of
this information, but you will find here everything
that you would receive in one of our introductory
mailings.
We
do not have fixed deadlines for application to the
program. Whenever we have gathered a group of
admissions files with complete information, we will
proceed to review them. This will occur about once
a month throughout the academic year. In addition,
we can expedite the review process for a candidate
who needs a quick answer as long as all materials
have been received. It is still in your best interest
to apply early, however, since the major fellowship
competitions occur at the end of January, and you
have to be admitted in order to be eligible. In general,
it is best to plan to begin the program in the fall
semester, although a spring semester start is possible
if that proves best for you.
On
the left is a table of contents for the information
that is available in the Prospective Students section
of this web page. A great deal more information about
the program (most relevant to students who are already
in the program) can be found in the Current
Students section. If you have any questions about
this program, please get in touch me or with the Ph.D.
Program Secretary.
I
look forward to hearing from you, and I hope you will
consider applying to our program.
Sincerely,
Mark Conley
