Despite
the large size and complexity of Michigan State
University, the Rehabilitation Counseling program
is a small, warm, and cohesive learning community.
You get to know the faculty and fellow students
well. You learn together and become colleagues
in the rehabilitation community after graduation.
The degree opened the door to my job as a rehabilitation
counselor with the Michigan Department of Career
Development - Rehabilitation Services. The best
part of the position is having the opportunity
to make a positive impact on another person's
life--perhaps helping someone to see a possible
goal for the first time. I have also worked with
the MSU program for several years since my graduation,
helping them to bring the field of rehabilitation
counseling to the attention of prospective students,
especially those from racial and ethnic minority
backgrounds. The field really needs more professionals
of color so that agencies reflect the communities
that they serve.
