I am a counselor for the Michigan Department of Career Development - Rehabilitation Services. My area of emphasis is transition of students with disabilities from school to work or higher education. I feel a lot of satisfaction from helping these young people get off to a good start in their careers. I also spend half of my time working with a general caseload of people with varied disabilities, and I enjoy the variety of issues that they bring. I am involved in a number of special projects with the agency such as the School for Leadership, which fosters continuing development of our skills as counselors. The Program Committee for our Michigan Rehabilitation Conference also claims some of my time. My advice is to find a job that you really enjoy and then keep renewing yourself with new activities and challenges.
