Meeting
the Technology Requirements:
The following statement describes how the technology
requirement can be met, and the practical standards to be
employed.
What is required?
The technology requirement
consists of five parts:
- E-mail
- World Wide Web
- Word Processing or
Presentation software
- Database or Spreadsheet
- Educational Software
Of the five parts, FOUR
may be satisfied by demonstrating a simple or fundamental use
described in the Level 1 column of the Technology Requirement
Table. ONE part of the
requirement must be satisfied by demonstrating an adaptive,
professional/pedagogical use described in the Level 2 Column
of the Technology Table.
How can teacher
candidates meet the requirement?
Teacher candidates can
satisfy each part of the technology requirement in any of the
following ways:
1. DEMONSTRATE THROUGH COURSE
ASSIGNMENTS
Instructors of Teacher
Preparation courses (e.g., 301, 401, 402) are encouraged to
design course assignments that allow teacher candidates to
demonstrate their technological competence. Course
instructors can determine if a student meets certain
requirements by examining the product or behavior as
specified in the following table.
2. ATTEND TECHNOLOGY
WORKSHOPS.
Four workshops are
offered weekly in the Technology Exploration Center (TEC).
Each workshop lasts two hours. The last half-hour is intended
for students who desire to meet the technology requirement.
Students can utilize this half-hour to develop a product
with skills and knowledge acquired in the workshop to demonstrate
that they have the ability to meet one of the technology
requirements. Workshop topics and times are announced on
the EGSOList, the Information Kiosk in the TEC, and
the TechGuide
Web page.
3. DEMONSTRATE TO TECHGUIDES.
Teacher candidates
can also make appointments with tech guides to demonstrate
their technology competence. The tech guide schedule in
the TEC is available on the EGOSList, the Information
Kiosk in the TEC, and the
Tech
Guide Web Page.
Excellence in
Teaching with Technology Awards
To encourage teacher
candidates to explore creatively the use of technology in real
educational settings, we have developed the Program of Award
of Excellence in Teaching with Technology. All teacher
candidates, including interns, may apply for the Award.
Application materials and evaluation standards will be
available from the TechGuides Web site or Room 130 Erickson
Hall.
