Special Education 
Planned Program for Elementary/Special Education:

All Special Education majors must complete courses within the following categories regardless of endorsement area:

Planned Program

Both of the following  courses:

*MTH 201 Elementary Mathematics for Teachers 3 credits
MTH 202 Elementary Mathematics for Teachers 3 credits

* MTH 201 is prerequisite for TE 401

NOTE: Students must fulfill course prerequisites (either by course credit, ACT/SAT math score or by mathematics placement exam) in order to enroll in mathematics courses.

The following course on children's literature:

* TE 348 Reading and Responding to Children's Literature 3 credits


* Course is prerequisite for TE 401
NOTE:  This course meets the Children's Literature requirement for the Language Arts Integrated Teaching Major and the credits will be counted there.

The following course on language acquisition and development:

CSD 333 Oral Language Development 3 credits

NOTE:  This course meets the language acquisition requirement for the Deaf Education and Learning Disabilities Majors and the credits will be counted there.

The following course on science in elementary schools:

SME 301 Science for Elementary Schools 3 credits

NOTE:  This course is waived for Integrated Science Teaching Majors

The following geography course:

GEO 204 World Regional Geography 3 credits

NOTE:  This course meets one of the geography requirements on the Social Studies Integrated Teaching Major and the credits will be counted there.

The following course in social science/history or approved alternative:

ISS 220 Time, Space, and Change in Human Society (or approved alternate course in social science) 4 credits

NOTE:  This course also meets the 200 level ISS university requirement.

One of the following arts courses:

IAH 241A Creative Arts and Humanities: Music and Society in the Modern World 4 credits
IAH 241C Creative Arts and Humanities: Cultural and Artistic Traditions of Europe 4 credits
IAH 241E Creative Arts and Humanities: The Creative Process 4 credits

NOTE:  Students may use IAH 241A, C, or E to satisfy the IAH"B" course component of the University Integrative Studies requirement in Arts and Humanities.

Please note the Planned Program for Special Education majors is different than the Planned Program for general Elementary Education majors.
