Newly admitted doctoral students in special education are automatically considered for various teaching and research assistantships as well as other major fellowships. Students desiring financial assistance for graduate studies should contact:

In addition, a number of graduate assistantships are available through the College of Education, and in the residence halls. THREE DOCTORAL PREPARATION
GRANT PROGRAMS

The Special Education Program at Michigan State University is pleased to offer three doctoral preparation grant programs supported by the  US Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.

These programs provide generous supports, including tuition/fee waivers, fellowships, paid assistantships, free health insurance, and conference travel support.  The awards are made to entering doctoral students who demonstrate a strong preparation for and aspiration toward a career in special education leadership (higher education, policy and administration at the state and federal level and professional development).  Recipients must study full time during the period of the award and make good progress toward their degrees.  Newly admitted doctoral students in special education are automatically considered for these awards.

Disability and Diversity Scholars Program

Doctoral study in Special Education with an emphasis on diversity and urban settings is a fellowship program for individuals who intend to pursue careers as researchers, teacher educators, and leaders in the field of special education. The program of doctoral study is designed to support students for a minimum of four years. Click on the above link for more information.

Special Education Technology Scholars Program

This program is designed to prepare future leaders in assistive technology through a series of coursework, online teaching practica, and research projects that involve scholars in developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative uses of technologies in support of teaching and learning for students with disabilities.  Click on the above link for more information.

 

Evidence-Based Interventions for
Children Exhibiting Disruptive Behaviors

This interdisciplinary program between School Psychology and Special Education helps doctoral students in each program learn about each other's professional culture.  While pursuing their focused doctoral studies, participants engage in collaborative field work, some common coursework, and a shared professional development community.  Click on the above link for more information.
