Disability
and Diversity Scholars Program
$20,000 plus free tuition & fees plus health benefits
The total
package is approximately $100,000 per student.
Under a Federal Grant from the US Department of Education, Office
of Special Education Programs, two-year awards are available that
combine an annual fellowship with a graduate assistantship.
The awards are made to entering doctoral students who demonstrate
a strong preparation for and aspiration toward a career in special education
leadership (higher education, policy and administration at the state
and federal level and professional development) with special emphasis
on disability and diversity in urban settings. Recipients
should study full time during the period of the award and make
good progress toward their degrees. Recipients may seek additional teaching
or research assistantships. Newly admitted doctoral students in special
education are automatically considered for these awards.
What's
it all about?
The program of doctoral study is designed to support students for a
minimum of four years. Grant awards combine an annual fellowship with
a graduate assistantship, providing approximately $20,000 plus tuition,
health benefits (families included), supported professional travel,
and modest research support for the first two years of the program.
Years three and four are typically supported by Teaching or Research
assistantships plus tuition credit and continued health benefits. The
