Cynthia M. Okolo is a professor at Michigan State University, where she teaches courses in instructional methods and assistive technology. Prior to obtaining her PhD as Indiana University, she was a special education resource room teacher at the elementary and middle school levels. Since entering higher education, she has maintained strong ties to teachers and children. She directed a remediation clinic in Chicago, served as faculty director of a lab school in Delaware, and has conducted the majority of her research in inclusive classrooms in urban settings.

Cindy has directed a Masters program in special education technology, has served as President of the Technology and Media Division of the Council for Exceptional Children, and is a reviewer for a number of technology journals. Her research has focused on improving teaching and learning for understanding in inclusive classrooms, particularly in the areas of literacy and historical understanding. Technology-based instructional experiences and tools have been key elements in her investigations and in the curricular units she and her colleagues have developed. She has worked closely with teachers in the design and investigations of technology-based interventions. Her work has been funded by the United States Department of Education and has been published in journals such as the Journal of Special Education, Journal of Learning Disabilities, Journal of Computing and Childhood Education, and Journal of Special Education Technology.
